Databases

Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in books, reports and reviews.

 

PsycARTICLES, 1894-
Published by the American Psychological Association, PsycARTICLES is a leading full-text source for academic, research and practice literature in psychology and related disciplines. Featuring a continuously growing number of significant and highly regarded periodicals, PsycARTICLES is an important resource for information in the behavioral science.

PsycINFO, 1806-
Provides abstracts and references to articles in psychology and related disciplines, including medicine, psychiatry and sociology. Includes dissertations, book chapters covering empirical studies, case studies, surveys, bibliographies, literature reviews, discussion articles, and conference reports.

Scopus, 1966-
Provides indexing, abstracting of and citation linking to journals in biology ,physics, chemistry, geosciences, agriculture, medicine, business, social work, and the social sciences. It includes peer-reviewed titles from international publishers, Open Access journals, conference proceedings, trade publications, quality web sources.

Social Sciences Citation Index (1980-present) (via Web of Science)
Social Sciences Citation Index (1980-) is a significant multi-disciplinary index to scientific journals, produced by the Institute of Scientific Information. It is unique for its citation index and related record search capability. Abstracts are available from 1991 onwards. Updated weekly.

PubMed, 1950-
Librarian's take: A free database service provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 17 million citations from MEDLINE for biomedical articles. Resources on health and biopsychology can be found too. PubMed includes links to full text articles and other related resources.

Expanded Academic ASAP, 1980-
Provides indexed and full-text articles from sources covering Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Science and Technology.

Sociological Abstracts, 1963-
Major resource for Sociology but includes psychology and related disciplines. Includes citations from journals, conference papers, books & dissertations. Thesaurus and user friendly Advanced Search features makes searching easy.

AllPsych online: the virtual psychology classroom
AllPsych Online is one of the largest and most comprehensive psychology websites on the Internet. You'll find over 920 individual, cross-referenced, web pages and an estimated 3000 pages of printed material on the site. AllPsych is referenced by over 100 colleges and universities in ten countries.

Buros Institute of Mental Measurements
The Buros Institute promotes appropriate test selection, use, and practice. It provides information on evaluation of the usefulness and effectiveness of commercially available tests. Includes search tools such as Test Reviews Online.

Encyclopedia of Psychology: Statistics
Provides a directory of online resources related to the use of statistics in psychology.

Intute: Social Sciences - Psychology
Provides access to psychology resources on the Internet. Each resource has been evaluated and categorised using the APA PsycINFO coding scheme. Main focus of  coverage is psychology in relation to social sciences. Psychology resources within life sciences can be found in the Health and Life Sciences section.

Medline Plus: Mental Heath
MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from National Library of Medicine, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other health related agencies and organizations to provide information and resources on health-related questions.

Psych Central
A mental health social network created and run by mental health professionals. Provides information sources for mental health information, annotated guides to  useful websites, newsgroups, and mailing lists in mental health, psychology, social work, and psychiatry.

Psychstat: Psychological Statistics at Missouri State University
Contains links to three different editions of several online introductory statistics texts and some data and statistical exercises related to the texts.

Psychology in the News
Published by the American Psychological Association, Psyc Port provides quick access to mass-media information related to psychology.

PsychScholar
Contains a collection of links aimed at both psychology professionals and students. Provides access to online journals, mental health information, research material, teaching resources, departments, societies, and software. A range of tutorials, demonstrations, and career decision aids are also available.

Social Psychology Network
One of the largest internet site devoted to psychological research and teaching. There are more than 14,000 links related to psychology.

Statistical Primer for Psychology Students
Provides good introduction on the use of statistics in psychology. Covers definitions of different types of statistical methods and the various measurement techniques, how data is represented and a statistical glossary.

Testing and Assessment: APA Online
An FAQ on psychological testing provided by the American Psychological Association. Contains practical guidance in using available resources to find psychological tests.

WWW Virtual Library: Psychology
An extensive collection of psychology resources arranged by resource type. Includes general psychology resources and lists of professional societies and mailing lists.

Factiva (E-Resource)
A reputable business information resource that allows searching for timely news articles from major national and international newspapers, trade journals, and wires, including The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.

LexisNexis Academic (E-Resource)
Provides full text of hundreds of news sources including newspapers, magazines, and newsletters. Pretty good about having boxes to fill in, to aid you in searching.

Press clippings
Located in the Singapore - Malaysia Collection, Central Library. A useful source for topical and current information, not available in journal articles or books. Articles on Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN from The Straits Times and Business Times are arranged by broad subjects.
