This subject guide covers resources available at the NUS Libraries.
This is not a comprehensive subject guide, but rather a selective list of
materials that are most useful for locating information in
marketing.
This guide contains the following sections: Databases
Journals Reference Sources
Theses
Library Instruction
& Tips Internet Sources
Writing and Citing Guides
Databases are a good a place to begin research. They may contain articles
in journals, papers in conference proceedings, newspapers, chapters in
books, reports and reviews.
Global
Market Information Database
Librarian's take: This is the first database to search for market
research reports of consumer products such as soft drinks, off-the-counter
drugs, personal computers and so on. The reports include brand names,
forecast for the industry and specific statistics such as totals sales,
retail volume and so on. GMID also provides consumer lifestyle reports of
various countries and advertising expenditure. GMID is sometimes known as "Euromonitor".
Euromonitor is the producer of the database.

Business Source Premier
Librarian's take: Business Source Premier (BSP) is sometimes known as
EBSCOHost. Although its strength is in its academic content, BSP also provides
market research reports from Datamonitor and MarketWatch, industry profiles
and SWOT analyses. Most of the reports are for consumer products. BSP tends
to focus on the US markets and very little on Singapore. Asian coverage is
fairly well covered.

on using BSP
Factiva
Librarian's take: A database of newspaper articles is a great place to
search for Singapore specific market information - especially when it includes Straits Times, Business Times, The
Edge, Channel NewsAsia. Do not expect full market research
reports but rather snippets of market information such as "Aspial-Lee Hwa
Jewellery is the largest jewellery chain in Singapore [with over 25
boutiques]". If
you searching for Singapore service markets such as nightspots, beauty business and so
on, Factiva would be a good place to try.
Frost & Sullivan
Librarian's take: Before you begin searching, get the "First Name", "Last Name",
"Email" you need to obtain the full text. To get these information,
click on Register. This database is excellent for technologies such as RFID, waste management, surgical instruments, interactive multimedia kioks
and also cover services such as call centres. So, if you want to find out
what the factors affecting the anti-allergic therapies market in the US,
this is the database.
Register before you
begin.
