What you need to find out:
How important is the currency of information for your topic?
In fields such as law, science, business and technology which are continually
and rapidly developing, currency of information is important. Fields such as
literature and history may require older as well as newer materials.
- When was the information published?
- How current are the references and data used?
How you can find out:
The date of publication is often located on the title page below the name of the publisher in books or periodicals.
Otherwise, look for the copyright date on the reverse of the title page.
To check for dates of references and currency of data used, you may need
to refer to accompanying footnotes, bibliographical references, tables or
appendices.
